In Yakutia for the protection of the polar bear population will create a reserve of “Bear island”. This was announced by the Minister of environment, natural resources and forestry of the Republic Mr. Afansiev, reports RIA Novosti.
Afanasiev said that the reserve will be based on the reserve of regional importance “Bear island” and resource reserves “of Chaigurgino and Cardilino cross”. It will be located on an archipelago in the East Siberian sea, North of the mouth of the Kolyma river.
Scientists suggest that each year in these areas are born before 26 cubs polar bear. In April 2020, experts have counted there are eight dens, 14 adults and 11 cubs. Afanasiev noted that the animals “were well fed and do not create threats to people.” According to him, the archipelago is one of the main places of formation of the tribal dens of bears on the territory of Yakutia.
The creation of the reserve is carried out in the framework of the national project “Ecology”, the decision on its creation will be signed in late 2020-early 2021 years. To Fund the “Bear island” will be from the Federal budget. In 2019 in Yakutia have created the national Park Kytalyk, its purpose is the preservation of the tundra landscapes, populations of the Siberian crane and reindeer.
