Russian scientists have completed the 65th seasonal expedition to Antarctica and returned to Saint Petersburg. This was reported TASS the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic research Institute (AARI) of Roshydromet.
As noted, the experts went in flight on Scientific and expeditionary vessel (RV) “Akademik Fedorov” on January 14. During the expedition they delivered the goods to create a wintering complex at Vostok station and spent rotation of the wintering personnel at the stations Progress, Mirny and Novolazarevskaya stations. In addition, at these stations and seasonal field bases Oasis Bangera and Youth has completed a set of seasonal scientific and applied works.
According to the press service, now all participants will have two weeks to observe the regime of self-isolation.
At the end of may the Ministry of education has allowed the resumption of Russian naval and other scientific expeditions, and also work at the scientific stations and centers of collective use of scientific equipment. It was noted that all studies will be conducted in compliance with measures to prevent the spread of a new coronavirus infection.
The research program of the world ocean is part of the national project “Science”, which is implemented in Russia at the initiative of President Vladimir Putin. According to him, until 2024 in the country should be organized about 250 scientific marine expeditions. In 2019 Russian scientists have organised 37 such expeditions in the North Atlantic and Arctic seas, the Japanese, Okhotsk, South China, the Black and Azov seas.
