Company TSMC has planned production of 3-nanometer processors for 2021. Such chips are used in iPhone 14, DigiTimes reports.
According to sources, TSMC has been working to develop smaller processors nanometer level and started to build new production lines. It is expected that the first batch built at the 3-nanometer technology chips will be ready in 2021, 2022, their volume will be increased. 3-nanometer chips will be used in smartphones by Apple, is scheduled for 2022, which will presumably be called iPhone 14.
According to the disclosed information, scheduled for the autumn line iPhone 12 will be based on 5-nanometer processors A14. Technical details about the chips of the new generation are not reported. The sources said that TSMC will transfer part of production in Arizona (USA), the construction cost of the new plant of the company is estimated at $ 12 billion. Presumably, the new workshop for the Assembly of processors of type A will not before 2024.
In the current smartphone line iPhone 11, released in the fall of 2019, processor A13 Bionic. The chip was designed by Apple and manufactured by TSMC with the use of 7-nanometer technology. A13 Bionic contains about 8.5 billion transistors and has an optional eight-processor Neural Engine.
Informed sources, Bloomberg said that Apple will abandon Intel processors in their computers, thereby ending a 15-year partnership with the company. The Corporation intends to release a Mac with a processor of its own production, expecting to increase their productivity and to reduce costs.
