The introduction of a basic income could save the UK economy which is in crisis due to pandemic coronavirus. To such conclusion analytical center RSA Future Work Center, writes Bloomberg.
RSA offers to the British government to begin to continually give people money just so that every British citizen was received in the amount of 2.5 thousand pounds sterling (more than three thousand dollars) per year. With time this figure may increase to five thousand pounds (six thousand dollars).
The experts called as efficient and assured that it will be able to support employees in problem sectors (e.g. retail trade), as well as provide rapid recovery after the crisis.
The government has already invested 27 billion pounds to keep the 11.5 million jobs. Experts fear negative consequences for the labour market, if support measures will cease to operate, and a basic income will be introduced. According to forecasts, the UK economy could shrink by 14 percent this year.
In Finland, the experiment on the introduction of unconditional basic income has been a failure, the distribution of money did not affect the growth of the labour market. The government has refused this measure because of its inefficiency.
