“EU ambassadors have given the green light to extend the ban on investment in Crimea for one year. All the same,” wrote the reporter. “Interfax” adds that the decision was made without any discussion in written form.
At the end of may it was reported that the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine appeared a special representative for the sanctions policy. One of his goals is the strengthening of international pressure on Russia as “state-aggressor”.
Anti-Russian sanctions by the US, EU and several other countries imposed in connection with joining of Crimea to Russia in 2014 and the aggravation of the situation in the South-East of Ukraine.
Crimea became part of Russia according to the results of a referendum held in March 2014. Ukraine, USA, EU members and other countries do not recognize its results and consider the presence of the Peninsula as part of Russia’s occupation. Moscow insists that the process of the annexation of Crimea meets standards of international law.
