In 2016, the Board of Directors of “Norilsk Nickel” has made the likelihood of an oil spill in Norilsk was trying to avoid “environmental catastrophe” in the event of an accident at the facilities of CHPP-3. This became known owned by Grigory Berezkin RBC.

The latter had to carry out the project of technical re-equipment of fuel storage CHP-3.
The goal of maintenance is to prevent the possibility of ecological disaster with the oil spill — this is what happened at the end of may 2020. In the “Norilsk Nickel” is not specified, repair what tank was, however, the company confirmed that repaired the tank, because of which the accident occurred, but called the other time — 2017-2018.
May 29 17 thousand tons of diesel fuel spilled on the road to HPP-3, which provides the Norilsk and the surrounding cities with electricity, heat and water. Fuel infiltrated into the soil, which led to the pollution of the river Barn, lakes and rivers Pacino flowing into the Kara sea.
Director CHP Pavel Smirnov was arrested by the court on June 11. He is suspected of violating the rules of environmental protection in the operation of industrial facilities. Informed together with Pavel Smirnov was detained the Deputy chief engineer Yuri Kuznetsov and the chief engineer of CHP-3 Alex Stepanov. According to the Investigative Committee, they have accepted the decision on continuation of operation of the reservoir that need to be repaired, in violation of safety rules.
