The Ukrainian government has called modernisation of the Armed forces (APU) and the newest upgraded weapons way to give a “fitting rebuff armed aggression” of Russia. This is stated in the programme of activities of the Ministry, the draft of which is submitted for approval of the Verkhovna Rada.
The document States that upgrading will allow soldiers to effectively carry out the tasks of ensuring national security and defence, including in the Donbass.
One of the priorities of the Ministry of defense of Ukraine will be the reform of the system of mobilization preparation and mobilization “given the challenges of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation”.
The government has set a target to achieve compatibility APU with the armed forces of States-members of NATO and establish an effective territorial defense system using the best foreign experience. The Ukrainian defense Ministry will also focus on the development of military-Patriotic education of Ukrainian troops.
June 12 it became known that Ukraine has become a member of the Partnership extended the capabilities of NATO. The same status was awarded to five more countries: Georgia, Jordan, Australia, Finland and Sweden. It provides additional opportunities for joint exercises with the forces of the Alliance.
In may, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky promised that a referendum on the country’s accession to NATO will be held at a time when Ukrainians are ready for it. Answering a question of journalist, not to complicate negotiations with Russia in a public statement about joining NATO, he said that Ukraine is an independent country, and orientation for membership in NATO and the European Union enshrined in the Constitution.
