In the absence of a contract for the supply of gas to Ukraine, Gazprom began the dismantling of pipes on Russian territory near the border with the Republic. About it in interview to the edition OilPoint said the head of the Operator of Ukraine’s GTS (OHTSU) Sergey Makogon.
“In fact, they want to destroy even the theoretical possibility of transit of gas through Ukraine in the future,” he said, adding that it would seem to be a problem, but to influence them, Kiev is not able.
Makogon noted that if Russia will be able to finish the construction “Nord stream-2” and begin to use it in accordance with the plans, the Ukrainian GTS will remain completely without transit. In this case, it will have to be used for domestic supply, import and production.
According to him, Russia could sell gas on the border with Ukraine, and in this case, European companies have been able to negotiate, but “Gazprom” acts categorically against such contracts.
Currently, the construction of “Nord stream-2” prevent US sanctions. They threaten the owner of a vessel engaged in laying pipes on the seabed. To finish it can pipelay Russian “Akademik Chersky”, but in the waters of Denmark, he should obtain insurance. In addition, Washington intends to tighten the limit to completely block the pipeline. In turn, Europe has limited its design capacity in two times.
Russia does not supply gas to Ukraine in 2015. January came into force new transit contract for export to Europe. It involves pumping 65 billion cubic meters per year in 2020 and 40 billion in the next four years.
