Short and medium-haul MS-21 (“bulk plane of the XXI century”) passed flight tests with the engine shut off, reported RIA Novosti, the test pilot of the Corporation “Irkut” Oleg Mutovin.
According to him, during testing of the aircraft there are “failure to assess the functioning of backup systems and reconfiguration of the Board in responding to the consequences of failure. For example, recently my colleague once again for more than two hours flew on MS-21 with one disabled engine for the evaluation of the systems of the aircraft in such a situation”.
In December 2019, “Irkutsk aviation plant” showed the Assembly of the fuselage MS-21-300, which pass the test with a Russian engine PD-14.
In November, the industrial Director of the aviation cluster “Rostec” Anatoly Serdyukov said that the MS-21 will get made from Russian composites panels of the wing box and centre wing section.
Russian short and medium-haul narrow-body passenger aircraft MS-21 is designed to carry up to 211 people (the ultimate dense layout of seats in MS-21-300) at a distance of up to 6.4 thousand kilometers. First flight of the machine was made in may 2017. In the MS-21 is used with many Western technologies and components, particularly American engines PW1000G, which is scheduled to replace the Russian PD-14.
