Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree establishing the order of Pirogov and medals Luke of Crimea, reported on the Kremlin website on Friday, June 19.
New awards established “in order to further improve the state award system of the Russian Federation”.
It is noted that the order also approved the Statute and description of order Pirogov, the position of Luke the Crimean medal and its description, and the drawings of the two awards.
State awards are the highest form of encouraging citizens for merits in the field of state building, economy, science, culture, art and education, strengthening the rule of law, health and life, protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens. They can be awarded to foreigners and persons without citizenship.
Luke Crimea (1877 — 1961) was the Archbishop, the Soviet surgeon, doctor of medical Sciences. The author of works on anesthesiology and purulent surgery.
Nikolai Pirogov (1810-1881) is considered the founder of field surgery in Russia and a founder of the national school of anesthesia.
