Russian tourists predicted the imminent opening of borders for travel. A tentative date was designated by the President of the Russian Union of travel industry (PCT) Andrew Ignatieff in an interview with NSN.
According to Ignatiev, there is a likelihood that the Russians will be able to fly abroad in July.
“I believe that in the second half of July, the aviation company will start performing international flights (…) they will fly and tourists,” he said, adding that at first it will be on a limited list of countries.
Earlier the upcoming opening of international borders has predicted the Association of tour operators of Russia (ATOR). According to the head of ATOR Maya Lomidze, the opening of air links with foreign countries will be held at least in two stages.
“The first stage — from July 15 — applies mostly to neighboring countries. The next stage is roughly from 1 August, the list of countries will expand depending on the epidemiological situation” — said Lomidze.
She stressed that initially, the border will be open to citizens planning to travel for any purpose except tourism. By what date the flights will be available for those wishing to travel, is still unknown.
8 June, Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin announced that citizens were allowed to travel abroad to work, study, treatment or care for relatives.
The country’s borders remained closed since the end of March, the exceptions were flights organized for the return of Russians from abroad, as well as private flights on behalf of the government.
