Yemen has predicted “an unimaginable nightmare” because of the pandemic, COVID-19: tens of thousands of people could die from pneumonia caused by a coronavirus. This was stated by the international rescue Committee (International Rescue Committee, IRC), reports CNN.
“What we see in Yemen, not like any tragedy, the witnesses of which we were before (…). We can’t even tell you how many people are infected, because the country’s health care system virtually collapsed, there is almost doing tests,” — said the Director of the regional IRC offices in the country Tamuna Sabadze.
In the opinion of the Committee, several million Yemenis might get an infection. The country predicted as a minimum of 85 thousand died from pneumonia.
Sabadze added that Yemen still is a military conflict, and the country is in dire need of humanitarian assistance. She called on the international community to “Wake up and act” to help Yemen.
On 11 June the Director of the African regional office of the world health organization (who), Matshidiso of Moeti said that the spread of coronavirus in Africa has accelerated. Serious problem may be the lack of tests and medical equipment.
