Russian floating cosmodrome “Sea launch” (Sea Launch) without government support will not work on samokopaniem. To such conclusion the Department of management of investment activities and management support to new businesses of Rosatom, RIA Novosti reported.
In goskorporatsii considered five scenarios for the use of the spaceport. Three of them do not provide for state support and be unprofitable. Thus, the “pessimistic” option involves holding platform with one start in two years, “basic” — one launch per year, “optimistic” or six launches per year.
In two other cases, the project can become self-supporting. The first option requires government support in the amount of 11.8 billion rubles (13 per cent of the necessary investment to resume operation), the second — 72 billion (79 percent of the required investment).
In June, the Agency said, citing Rosatom, said that the cost of the “Sea launch” is about 11 billion rubles. At the same time RIA Novosti, referring to the state Corporation, said that the recovery of the “Sea launch” will require 84 billion.
In the same month it was reported that “Rosatom” has refused to buy “Sea launch”, which its present owner, the company plans to sell S7 due to lack of funding.
Also in March, the head of the space policy Institute Ivan Moiseev said that the “Sea launch” because of its uselessness will be cut for scrap.
In March launch platform floating cosmodrome Sea Launch (“Sea launch”) arrived in the Russian territorial waters of California, USA. Earlier in the same month in the seaside port of Slavyansk arrived command ship “Sea launch”, which left US in February.
The work on creation of floating cosmodrome began in 1995. Founders of the company became Boeing’s Rocket and space Corporation Energia, the Norwegian shipbuilding company Kvaerner (Aker Solutions modern), Ukrainian design Bureau “southern” and the plant “Pivdenmash”. In 2009, Sea launch filed for bankruptcy. After the reorganization a leading role in the project has received “Energy”. In 2018, the S7 group of companies closed the transaction on purchase of the property complex of the project, becoming the full owner of the floating spaceport. The total transaction, including the withdrawal of conservation, amounted to approximately $ 150 million.
