The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe made a final assessment regarding the amendments to the Constitution of Russia. “Absolutely impermissible speculation, which continues in relation to the assessment of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, article 79 of the Constitution. We are talking about what is actually in conclusion, the Venice Commission pointed out that the supremacy of the Constitution is absolutely legitimate,” said khabrieva, stressing that the ratio of national and international law is determined by the state, and it is his sovereign right.
The co-chair of the working group in the Commission’s decision also noted that in countries where there is a priority of the Constitution over international law, “possible conflict”. In such cases, says khabrieva, issues need to be addressed with the European and the Constitutional court, and in Russia already there are such practices.
Thursday, June 24, in Russia opened the first polling stations on the Constitution. Total voting across the country will open more than 96 thousand and a half sites. A plebiscite will be held prior to July 1, inclusive.
