Flight tests of the Russian su-57 with the engine of the second stage, known informally as the “Super-Sukhoi”, will begin in the summer of 2022, according to “Izvestia”, citing sources.
According to the publication, has not yet produced commercially and are not accepted for combat duty, the aircraft will receive the upgrade not only engines but also avionics and onboard systems. To complete the appropriate developmental work, dubbed “Metropolis”, scheduled for the end of 2024.
“The first pictures of the take-off of the su-57 is made with one experimental engine was introduced in March this year. Visible on the characteristic scalloped shape of the nozzle with thrust vector control needs to reduce the radar signature of a fighter”, — writes the edition.
The newspaper says that the upgraded su-57, in comparison with aircraft equipped with the engine of the first stage, will receive greatly enhanced combat characteristics.
