The decision of Japan to cancel plan to deploy ground-based U.S. missile defense Aegis Ashore may have important implications for relations with Russia. This became known from the words of the Japanese Minister of foreign Affairs of tosimitsu Motegi, it is quoted by TASS.
According to the head of the foreign Ministry, due to the fact that in the course of negotiations between Moscow and Tokyo raises issues of security. He noted that he did not know whether the rejection of American systems positive influence on the negotiation process. Motegi said that “expresses no optimism, no pessimism” about this.
On 25 June, the government of Japan has decided to cancel the plan for deploying ground-based U.S. missile defense Aegis Ashore. The complexes were placed in the prefectures of Akita and Yamaguchi.
That the United States to 2023 plan to place on the Japanese Islands two us ballistic missile defence system Aegis Ashore, became known in December 2017. In 2019, the Minister of foreign Affairs Taro Kono confirmed the intention of the Japanese state.
