“The men are suspected of having covered the activities of organized criminal cartels engaged in drug trafficking in Bulgaria and abroad”, — said the chief Prosecutor of Bulgaria Ivan geshev.
According to Gesheva, all of those arrested are high-ranking staff of management on fight against drugs in Bulgaria. In addition, they were the main representatives of the country in contact with foreign colleagues, “and not only in the European Union (EU),” said the Prosecutor.
Bulgaria is part of the so-called “Balkan route”, which for many years remained the main smuggling road, by which from Asia to Western Europe has diverted tons of drugs.
