Vakarchuk was deprived of his Deputy mandate



Ukrainian party “the Voice” held an extraordinary Congress, which deprived the soloist of the band “Okean Elzy” Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, Deputy mandate. On Friday, June 26, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.

Vakarchuk will remain a member of the party, his place in Parliament is a lawyer and human rights activist Alina Svidersky.

Vakarchuk has filed a statement of resignation of Deputy’s mandate on June 11. The musician said that he considers his mission accomplished because the party “Voice” in Parliament. He added that he is going to do some educational project. However, at the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on June 18 for the deprivation Vakarchuk mandate voted only 175 deputies out of 226 required.

“Unfortunately, the Verkhovna Rada did not give me a choice, though I was hoping for respect from their colleagues to the decision of a free man. So today, I appeal to the people, party members — please meet my request and to terminate the powers of people’s Deputy”, — said Vakarchuk at the Congress “Voices”.

In 2007, Vakarchuk was elected to the Verkhovna Rada according to the list of the bloc “Our Ukraine — national self-defense”, and a year voluntarily resigned his parliamentary powers.
