Metropolitan Ilariona: the program “the Church and the world” / “Russia-24”
The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) support discrimination of transgender people and sexual minorities. About it on air of TV channel “Russia-24” said the Chairman of the Synodal Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, reports TASS.
According to the priest, the Russian Orthodox Church did not discriminate against any social groups, and “against the erosion of absolute moral rules” on which to build civilization.
“We in the Church advocate that is not eroded those absolute moral standards, which for centuries was built the people’s lives, which enabled people to be fruitful and multiply,” he told Metropolitan Hilarion about the attitude of the Russian Orthodox Church to this issue.
Metropolitan also supported an amendment to the Constitution of Russia, according to which marriage will be recognized as only the Union of man and woman. He called this rule “the fundamental principle on which for centuries was built the human community”.
In 2015, the Russian Orthodox Church has declared its readiness to help gay men deal with the sins. It noted that “the Church is sympathetic to the suffering and offers them encouragement, healing and Christian love”, despite the fact that “those who actively participates in any immoral or unnatural pursuits, cannot participate in the sacraments of the Church.”
