Hot weather in July in Siberia, increases the risk of forest fires. About it RIA Novosti said the experts from Stockholm University.
According to associate Professor of the Institute of physical geography, Stockholm University Gustav Huselius if the weather does not soon change, we can expect forest fires for the season. However, if July and August are rainy, the probability decreases slightly.
Meteorologist, Professor, Stockholm University Mikael Fernstrom notes that because of this weather definitely increases the chance of forest fires. “The drier and hotter the weather the more often this can happen,” he said.
At the same time, the specialists said that hot weather in Siberia is not abnormal for this time of year. However, they also stressed that due to global warming, such weather will stand more and more often. This can lead to negative consequences for the region from the economic point of view and the environmental one.
Earlier heat waves occurred in the Yakut city of Verkhoyansk, which is known as one of the North poles of cold. On June 20, the city had recorded a temperature of 38 degrees. The meteorologist explained that the reason for such hot weather in the sharply continental climate of Yakutia and the anticyclone, which came from the East.
