In Britain, the vandals painted on the wall of the Charles Dickens Museum, the word “racist”. About it reports the edition KentLive.
Specifies that unknown not only caused the black paint of the phrase “Dickens — racist”, but painted over the sign with a street named in honor of the British writer. The police said that they have not yet received complaints about the desecration of the building.
It is noted that though the novelist in his works, and spoke in support of the poor and oppressed segments of the population, in his work he often showed stereotyping of races. Despite the fact that Dickens was in favor of abolishing slavery, he also supported the colonial policy of the British Empire.
Earlier in June, vandals in Bristol desecrated two tombstones in the burial place of the servant of Scipio Africanus after protesters against racism were demolished and thrown into the sea the statue of the slave trader Edward Colston. The mayor declared the destruction of iconic monuments of history and urged citizens to stop the attacks “a tooth for a tooth.”
