Former Prime Minister of France françois Fillon was sentenced to five years in prison in the case of fictitious employment, three of them conditionally. About it reports Reuters.
The Paris court found guilty the former Prime Minister of embezzlement of public funds. His wife Penelope was found guilty of concealment of this fact, for which she received three years probation and must pay a fine of 375 thousand euros. The couple plans to appeal the verdict.
It is noted that for several years, Penelope Fillon fictitious as the club’s assistant husband during his work as the Deputy of the lower house of Parliament (the National Assembly), unlawfully having thus 500 thousand euros. Later, the amount appearing in the case of funds raised to 900 thousand euros.
François Fillon was Chairman of the French Cabinet from 2007 to 2012 under President Nicolas Sarkozy. At that time he started a friendly relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2016-2017 participated in the presidential race and was considered one of the likely winners, but lost the position due to the scandal.
