The head of the Alliance remembered his experience with Moscow as Prime Minister of Norway. His main conclusion was a call “not to be afraid to talk with Russia.” Stoltenberg stressed that NATO is interested in de-escalation and to prevent a new arms race and the cold war.
“Dialogue is the best way of cooperation with Russia. (…) If she would be willing to cooperate to change behavior, we will also be ready”, — concluded the Secretary General.
On 17 June, the defense Ministers of the NATO countries agreed on new measures in response to the strengthening of Russia in the missile sphere. The new package includes the strengthening of the common missile and air defense. Stoltenberg said that NATO countries are modernizing their weapons and purchase including the American anti-missile Patriot systems and military aircraft of the fifth generation.
