Adoption of amendments to the current Constitution of Russia was the right step because these rules will strengthen the statehood. This was stated by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, reports RIA Novosti.
“[The amendment] will create the conditions for sustained development of our country for decades to come,” explained the Russian leader.
Earlier, Putin said that the Constitution of the USSR was a “time bomb” on the right of exit of republics from the Union. According to the head of the state, things like that Russia should avoid.
Constitutional changes were approved in a popular vote by the majority of Russians — the amendment was supported by 77.92% of voters. Among the amendments was the priority of the law over international, the state’s obligation at least once a year to index pensions, the amendments with references to God and the state-forming Russian people, and the right of the incumbent President be re-elected for a new term.
