President Vladimir Putin sent a proposal to transfer the celebration of Russia Day from June 12 to July 1. About that RT told the author of the initiative, a member of the Public chamber, President of the National parent Committee Irina Volynets.

She supported the idea to declare 1 July a national holiday and a day off. According to her, this was made possible after the vote on the amendments to the Constitution, in which the majority of citizens approved the amendments.

Volynets added that many Russians on 12 June associated not with the acquisition of independence of the country, and with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Earlier, Deputy speaker of the state Duma Olga Epifanova said July 1 it is necessary to make the day by analogy with the Constitution Day in 1990-e years and until 2005 was a festive day.

1 July in Russia held the final day of the nationwide referendum on the Constitution. The turnout was about 65 percent. The results of processing 100 percent of ballots, the amendment was voted 77.92 percent of citizens 21.27 percent against.
