Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbul ogly allowed the emergence of large-scale war with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh. He stated this in an interview with radio station “Moscow speaking”, commenting on the outbreak of the fighting on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
The diplomat stressed that Azerbaijan “will never accept the loss of 20 percent of its territory,” therefore, the incidents on the border is inevitable. “Do you think ten million rich, well-developed infrastructure, the country will be allowed to occupy an infinite amount of time their territory? That’s impossible,” said Bulbul oglu.
According to him, large countries are trying to freeze the conflict and the negotiations do not yield results. But while foreign troops are on the territory of Azerbaijan, the conflict will continue, continued the Ambassador. “And one day may grow into large-scale war, which would be a disaster for the entire region,” said Bulbul oglu.
According to the diplomat, the question of “who started it”, doesn’t matter. “It is time to resolve the conflict based on international law, and international law is on Azerbaijan”, — he added.
In 1991, Nagorno-Karabakh, mainly populated by Armenians, declared independence from Azerbaijan. Baku tried to retake the region by force. Three years later the parties with the mediation of Russia signed a Protocol on ceasefire, but the hostilities are periodically renewed.
