The German armed forces shall pay compensation to soldiers and gay victims of discrimination in their ranks. On the preparation of the bill with such content was announced by the Minister of defence of Germany Annegret Kramp-of Karrenbauer, reports Spiegel.
It clarifies that we are talking about cash payments and not on any benefits or services. The bill will be completed by September and will apply to those who have suffered from oppression in the period until 2000 — until the moment when the military, homosexuals were allowed to openly declare their orientation.
First and foremost, the compensation given to those who appeared before the military court for homosexual acts that took place with the consent of: up to a certain point in the 1960-ies it was illegal. Subsequently, media of homosexual ceased to judge and expel from the ranks of the military, but they were not entrusted with leadership positions.
Since 2000, gays, lesbians and bisexuals allowed to openly serve in the Bundeswehr, and since 2014 admitted to this activity and transgender.
