The torch of the Moscow Olympics of 1980 was sold at auction in Cannes. About it reports TASS.

The artifact was played at auction and sold for two and a half thousand Euro earlier on 26 July. The buyer of the torch is not named. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Olympic games of 1980.

July 19, 1980 ended the Olympic torch relay. Basketball player of the USSR national team Sergey Belov lit the fire in the arena “Luzhniki” during the opening ceremony of the Games in Moscow.

The summer Olympics of 1980 was held from 19 July to 3 August. Most launches took Moscow, part of the competition was held in Kiev, Minsk, Leningrad and Tallinn.

The Soviet team won first place in the medal standings at the Games in 1980. Athletes from the Soviet Union won 80 gold medals, 69 silver and 46 bronze medals. The team from 65 countries boycotted sorevnovaniya. Among them — the USA, Japan, Germany, Turkey, South Korea.
