The U.S. government has intimidated supporters of the “Nord stream-2” in Europe, saying that Russia is using the project will be to enhance and maintain European dependence on gas. This follows from the statement of the representative of the American Embassy in Germany, which he made Deutsche Welle.
The diplomat warned of the company from participation in the completion of the facility. According to him, although the US does not impose new sanctions against the “Nord stream-2”, participation in the project will mean for them certain risks.
It became known earlier about the US pressure on European contractors involved in the construction of “Nord stream-2”. According to unofficial information, the American side has conducted several conferences with contractors from Europe and “really made it clear that he wants to prevent the completion of the pipeline.”
At the end of 2019, the United States imposed sanctions against the “Nord stream-2” which was one of the reasons for the transfer completion at the turn of the 2020-2021 years. In July 2020, the U.S. House of representatives voted for the amendment that will expand restrictions against the project. If they’re approved by the Senate and the American President, the new sanctions can be extended to individuals and legal entities that contribute to the sale, lease, or provide ships for pipe laying, as well as their insurance.
