Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to consider the presentation of the Constitution as amended, together with a Russian passport when receiving it. The corresponding order published on the Kremlin website.
The current version of the Constitution proposed to give “citizens who have attained the age of 14, and persons who acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation”.
A nationwide vote on amendments to the Constitution took place from 25 June to 1 July inclusive. Voted for them 77.92 percent of citizens 21.27 percent opposed. Among the adopted amendments was the priority of the law over international, the state’s obligation at least once a year to index pensions, the amendments with references to God and the state-forming Russian people, and the right of the incumbent President be re-elected for a new term.
For the first time about the need to amend the document adopted in 1993, the President said in January during his address to the Federal Assembly.
