The joint staff of the candidate in presidents of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovski reported that state-owned enterprises and private companies for outdoor advertising rejected her placing campaign billboards. About it writes “Radio Freedom”.
Tikhanovski signed an agreement with the state organization “Gomeloblpochta” placing posters on seven billboards in the Gomel region. It was the only company that “in principle agreed to provide us such service,” he said at the headquarters of his chief rival of the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko.
Soon, however, the Director of the company called and apologized for not being able to fulfill the contract as of the Gomel regional Executive Committee banned him, citing the need to accommodate seven posters of social advertising.
Local authorities have not yet commented on the situation.
Staff Tikhanovski noted that the state enterprise “Minskreklama” also refused to consider the possibility of placing posters in the Belarusian capital, referring to the fact that the social is more important than elections. The opposition refused to advertise private companies in Brest and Grodno.
July 30, in the center of Minsk held a pre-election rally-concert of the opposition, having gathered a record number of Belarusians. The defenders from “Viasna”, at the event in support Tikhanovski gathered 63 thousand people. According to other estimates, the number of participants was about 35 thousand.
Presidential elections in Belarus scheduled for 9 August. Running for a sixth term, Lukashenko said that the vote will be honest.
