Lithuania rejected Lukashenka’s legitimacy

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausea refused to consider Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko as a legitimate head of state. He declared it on air of TV channel Sky News.

According to him, Lukashenka cannot be called a legitimate President because there are no free democratic elections. “If we passively observe what is happening, Belarus may be fully integrated into Russia. We not only Lithuania but also the whole European Union is interested in Belarus was a stable, democratic and sovereign state”, — said the Lithuanian leader. Moscow is interested in having a satellite state, he added.

According to Nausea, in Minsk against the possibility of sanctions if the crisis situation prevailing in the country after the presidential election, will not be able to resolve peacefully.

Earlier, the Baltic States and Poland want to become facilitators in getting Belarus out of crisis. The four leaders called on the Belarusian authorities to convene a national round table of reconciliation with the participation of civil society representatives, to cease immediately to use force against its citizens, and also to release all detainees.

Election of the President of Belarus passed on August 9. According to official data, the victory on them was won by incumbent President with more than 80 percent of the vote. Disagree with the results of the elections, the Belarusians took to the mass protests, which were accompanied by mass detentions and harsh actions of the security forces.
