Telegram staged “elections” for Belarusians

Telegram has created an official channel called the “Telegram of Belarus”, which staged “elections” for the citizens of the Republic.

On the main photo has the image of a white-red-white flag of Belarus, which was the state symbol of the Republic in 1991-1995. Next to the name has a blue check mark of verification.

“The Belarusian language became accessible to all users. It will be offered at registration to all users whose system language is Belarusian. In addition, anyone can switch to the Belarusian language in the application settings Telegram”, — specified in the account.

The channel has launched a survey to clarify for whom citizens voted during the last presidential elections. So the company is testing a new feature restrictions on geolocation in the polls. Only users from Belarus will be able to choose one of the candidates. According to the survey by 23:30 Moscow time, for Svetlana Tikhanovski voted 59 percent for the incumbent President, Alexander Lukashenko — two percent.

Protests continue in Belarus from 9 August. Authorities dispersed protesters using rubber bullets, batons, water cannons, tear gas, stun grenades.

Residents participate in strikes and need to hold new, fair elections. Strike against rigging was supported by hundreds of workers of the Belarusian automobile plant (BelAZ), and many other companies, the Institute of chemistry of new materials of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Belarusian state Philharmonic, the airline “Belavia”. Many employees of state media resigned amid protests.
